Glutathione Nasal Spray: What a Month Costs and What Four Small Studies Found

A glutathione nasal spray is compounded to a prescription. Its monthly market, computed from sellers' prices beside the injection, and what the four human studies of the spray actually tested.

A glutathione nasal spray is a compounded product, which means a pharmacy prepares it to a prescription rather than a drug maker selling an approved version. Pharmacies may compound glutathione because FDA lists it in 503A Category 1, the substances under evaluation[1]. Under its interim policy, FDA does not intend to take action against a pharmacy compounding from a Category 1 substance when the policy’s conditions are met[2]. That policy covers bulk substances that are not a component of an FDA-approved drug[2].

Spray prices run from $83 to $249 a month across 16 sellers, each counted once at its lowest monthly spray price, and they were read through September 2026. That is a small market, so a single seller changing its price can move the typical figure.

The two figures price different amounts of medicine, so they cannot be compared directly. A seller that states the milligrams per spray and the sprays per day lets you convert both to a cost per milligram with the cost-per-mg calculator. Four studies, in the order they were published

Almost everything known about glutathione sprayed into the nose comes from one team, led by the same first author, working mostly with people who have Parkinson’s disease. Read in sequence, the studies show how far the evidence has come and where it stops.

    A survey of people already prescribed it

    70 of 300 people sent a survey replied; 12.1% of respondents reported adverse effects.

    A safety trial in 30 people

    Up to 600 mg a day for 3 months; no substantial difference in adverse events.

    15 people, one 200 mg dose; brain glutathione rose above baseline.

The 2013 survey went to people drawn from a pharmacy database who had been prescribed the spray between 2009 and 2011, and its authors wrote that no literature then supported this route[3]. Of 300 people sent the survey, 70 replied; the most common reasons for the prescription were multiple chemical sensitivity (29) and allergies or sinusitis (25)[3]. A self-selected survey like this cannot show that the spray works.

The 2015 trial randomized 30 people with Parkinson’s disease to saline, 300 mg a day or 600 mg a day of intranasal glutathione, in three divided doses, for three months[4]. It was a safety study, and it found no substantial differences between groups in adverse events[4].

In 2016 the team measured brain glutathione by magnetic resonance spectroscopy in 15 people with mid-stage Parkinson’s disease after one 200 mg dose[5]. Levels were not higher at 8 minutes but were above baseline at every later time point, for at least an hour[5].

The 2017 phase IIb trial randomized 45 people to saline, 100 mg or 200 mg three times a day for three months[6]. Every group improved, placebo included, and neither glutathione dose was superior to placebo[6]. The authors called for longer and larger studies before any conclusion about lasting benefit[6].

What these studies do and do not cover

None of the trials studied skin, energy or general wellness uses. They studied people with Parkinson’s disease, at stated doses, for three months at most. Doses on this page are what the trials used, not a recommendation, and no label sets a dose for home use.

Before a refill

Ask the seller which pharmacy compounds the spray, how many milligrams each spray delivers, and how many sprays a day the monthly price assumes. A bottle that runs out early costs more than the price advertised. Then add any membership or consult fee with the all-in monthly calculator.
