How Long Does a Vial of Sermorelin Last? The Arithmetic From the Label

Vial strength divided by the daily amount. The approved product held 0.5 mg or 1.0 mg, and the amounts published studies used make that last less than a day, or a few days.

ByDerek MossPricing analystPublished

A vial of sermorelin lasts as long as its milligrams allow. Divide the vial's strength by the amount used each day. That quotient is the answer in days.

The label sets the top half of that fraction. The prescription sets the bottom half. This page fills in both from published sources only.

The top number: what the label says a vial holds

FDA-approved sermorelin was sold as GEREF. It came in two vial strengths: 0.5 mg and 1.0 mg of sermorelin base per vial [1].

Its maker discontinued it in 2008. FDA withdrew the approvals effective June 18, 2009 [1].

In 2013, FDA ruled the withdrawal was not for safety or effectiveness reasons [1]. Sermorelin's compounding status rests on it being a component of that approved drug.

Compounded vials are not GEREF. Their strength is whatever the pharmacy label prints. The division works the same way on any label.

The bottom number: what studies actually used

GEREF was approved to treat growth failure in children [1]. For adults, the only public amounts are the ones studies used.

A 1997 trial gave 11 healthy men aged 64 to 76 nightly injections of 2 mg GHRH [2]. Treatment ran 6 weeks.

A 2017 chart review describes sermorelin as a growth hormone-releasing hormone analog [3]. Its patients were prescribed 100 mcg three times daily [3].

That regimen combined sermorelin with two other peptides, GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 [3]. Only 14 of 105 men met its inclusion criteria.

A third 1997 trial used an analog at 10 mcg per kg nightly [4]. That amount depends on body weight. So no per-vial figure is computed for it here.

At the 1997 trial's amount, even the larger vial falls short of one night. At the chart review's amount, it covers 3.3 days.

What a month costs, beside the vial math

137 sellers publish a monthly sermorelin injection price. The typical figure is $185 a month. The range runs $99 to $349, read through September 2026.

Those are plan prices, not per-vial prices. Ask how many vials a month includes, and at what strength. Then run the division above.

Mixing and storage change how long a vial stays usable. See bacteriostatic water for peptides and how to store peptides.

FAQ

4 questions

How long does a vial of sermorelin last?

Divide the vial's strength in mcg by the mcg used per day. At the 100 mcg three-times-daily amount in a 2017 chart review, a 1,000 mcg vial covers about 3.3 days. At the 2 mg nightly amount in a 1997 trial, it covers half of one night.

What sizes did approved sermorelin vials come in?

GEREF, the FDA-approved product, came in 0.5 mg and 1.0 mg sermorelin base per vial. It was discontinued in 2008, and compounded vials carry whatever strength the pharmacy label prints.

Can I keep using an opened sermorelin vial until it runs out?

CDC guidance says a punctured multi-dose vial should be dated and discarded within 28 days unless the manufacturer states another date. Your pharmacy label may set a shorter limit.

Is there a standard adult sermorelin dose?

Not for adults. The approved product, GEREF, was indicated for children with growth failure. For adults, the only public amounts are the ones studies used, and your prescriber sets yours.
