Growth hormone costs more, even at the label's adult starting dose. The figures below show how much more.
Sermorelin is priced as a monthly plan. HGH is priced by the milligram. The two need converting before they compare.
HGH: the manufacturer's own list price
Pfizer publishes list prices for Genotropin, its somatropin brand [1]. The figures below are from its disclosure dated July 2026.
| Package | WAC | Per mg |
|---|---|---|
| 5 mg cartridge | $779.20 | $155.84 |
| 12 mg cartridge | $1,870.09 | $155.84 |
| 0.2 mg syringes, pack of 7 | $224.13 | $160.09 |
WAC is a list price to wholesalers. It comes before any discount or rebate [1].
Pfizer's own note says the price consumers pay may be higher or lower [1]. Insurance changes it entirely.
Turning the HGH list price into a month
The label gives adults with growth hormone deficiency a starting dose of about 0.2 mg a day [2].
That dose is then adjusted every one to two months [2]. Maintenance doses vary widely between people.
At 0.2 mg a day, 28 days takes 4 packs of 0.2 mg syringes. At list price, that is $896.52.
That is the label's starting dose, not a typical bill. The label's starting range runs 0.15 to 0.30 mg a day [2].
Sermorelin: what sellers publish
137 sellers publish a monthly sermorelin injection price. The typical figure is $185.
The range runs $99 to $349, read through September 2026. These are cash prices for a compounded plan.
The HGH starting-dose month lists at about 4.8 times the typical sermorelin plan. That compares a list price with a cash price.
How many days a sermorelin vial covers is its own arithmetic. See how long a vial of sermorelin lasts.
Why the two are priced so differently
Genotropin is a recombinant human growth hormone [2]. It is an approved, manufactured drug with a brand list price.
Its label lists pediatric growth conditions and growth hormone deficiency in adults [2].
Sermorelin's approved product, GEREF, was discontinued in 2008 [3]. What sellers offer now is compounded.
FDA ruled in 2013 that GEREF was not withdrawn for safety or effectiveness reasons [3]. That ruling underpins its compounding status.
A compounded drug is exempt from the approval requirement that applies to brand drugs [5]. That exemption only holds when the compounding law's conditions are met.
That rule ties an HGH prescription to an approved use. It is part of what the HGH list price buys: a diagnosis first.
What to ask before comparing
Ask what dose the plan's price assumes. Ask how many vials, at what strength. Then compare by the month.
Price says nothing about whether either product suits you. Your prescriber decides that.
